In his 2015 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called for “a better politics,” and spoke out against the wave of “dark money” that has overtaken U.S. elections since Citizens United. But we deserve more than just talk from our President. We deserve action. President Obama should start by issuing an executive order to require federal government contractors to disclose all of their political spending and strike a blow against the corrupting influence of secret money in politics. He has the power to do so at any time, without congressional approval.
Right now corporations receiving government contracts are able to "indirectly" funnel unlimited, undisclosed amounts of money to those very same politicians and candidates who grant them their contracts, perpetuating a cycle of legalized corruption that uses our tax dollars to bribe politicians and enrich corporate America.
Stand in solidarity with 99Rise activists from across the country who took nonviolent direct action to demand that Obama step up and do what's right, and join the over half million Americans who are demanding government transparency and corporate accountability: sign the petition to call on President Obama to expose secret money now.GOAL: 703 signatures
To President Obama:
Corporate government contractors are spending enormous sums of money influencing our elections and corrupting our democracy in total secrecy.
I urge you to sign an executive order mandating the full disclosure of all political spending by federal contractors so that We the People can see who is trying to buy our votes with our own tax dollars.

More than 8 in 10 Americans now agree that we must put a stop to unlimited outside political spending, and soon our elected officials will be forced to respond to this clear mandate for change. But after the most expensive election in history, our bought Congress will only be held accountable through nonviolent action on a truly massive scale.
So that's exactly what we'll do. By signing this pledge, you join a growing Nonviolent Army of deep patriots willing to put their bodies on the line to engage in the Largest Civil Disobedience Action in American History. For us to make history, we first need the pledge of 10,000 people like you. Add your name below and together we will win a democracy that finally responds to the needs of the 99%.
I pledge to be one of 10,000 people who will risk arrest in the Largest Civil Disobedience Action in American History in order to get big money out of politics.Endorse

In America, we have been told since birth that we live in a democracy. And yet 96% of us have come to accept that special interest money has corrupted our electoral process and our representatives, that we do not live in a democracy...91% of us say that there is nothing we can do about this. I'm part of that five percent that says otherwise!
Government of the people, by the people, for the people is the ideal that animates human beings all over the planet to stand up, take risks, and demand their rights. And this is what 99Rise is going to do. This is what I am going to do.
The other day, a good friend of mine, Kai Newkirk, released a video of himself interrupting the supreme court and articulating the views of the vast majority of the American people. Our next step is a march from LA to Sacramento, ending in an occupation of the capitol to demand that the state legislature call for an article five constitutional convention, and to further thrust our battle for a constitutional amendment to get big money out of politics into the national spotlight. We will mobilize our fellow Americans. We will reclaim government of, by, and for the people in the United States of America.
There will be tired legs, under-supplied participants, and arrests. And this is only the beginning. We can use every mind, body, and penny we can muster.
I will be attending the kick-off event at LA City hall May 17th, marching through the first weekend, rejoining the last week of the march, and risking arrest in the occupation of the capitol.
