We the People must win this change if we hope to ensure that the people we love, the principles we hold dear, and the planet on which we live will survive and thrive into this new century. Together, if we are willing to fight, we can do it.
Bernie Sanders has it right: "No president... who gets elected... will in fact be able to address the enormous problems facing working families in this country today unless there is a political revolution... unless... we have a mass political movement."*
We at 99Rise have been singularly committed to building such a movement from the ground up. We believe that if a political revolution is to succeed in overthrowing the billionaire class and winning a real democracy that works for all Americans, it must take on ending corruption as its first fight - and embrace the means of mass, escalating nonviolent action to disrupt business as usual in Washington.
If you believe in that movement and if you want to be part of it, sign this petition that declares your support to overturn Citizens United, end corruption, and establish political equality for all!
We are planning big things for 2016. Nothing short of mass civil disobedience on a historic scale will break through the cycle of big money corruption that now dominates our political system and plagues our government, making real progressive change impossible.
Nothing short of a movement of militant nonviolent civil resistance will create the political revolution about which Bernie Sanders is so powerfully speaking.GOAL: 730 signatures
I support a Constitutional Amendment and federal legislation to overturn Citizens United, end the corruption of big money in politics, and establish political equality for all Americans.
Elaine – there is no FB event page for the national day of action but there are for the local ones.
Diana – the assertion by David and Janice that we are CIA front group is pure nonsense. We are a nonviolent, independent grassroots organization. There is no evidence to support that claim and the rest of what David has to say undermines his credibility beyond repair (i.e. “Hitler was a jew and the holocaust is a fantastic hoax,” etc). In fact, much of what he says is hate speech and for that reason the comments will be deleted. If they continue, he’ll be blocked from posting.
We welcome feedback and dialogue or debate in website comments but not libel or hate speech. Let’s focus on organizing and taking action together to end corruption and win free & fair elections in the US.
In his 2015 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called for “a better politics,” and spoke out against the wave of “dark money” that has overtaken U.S. elections since Citizens United. But we deserve more than just talk from our President. We deserve action. President Obama should start by issuing an executive order to require federal government contractors to disclose all of their political spending and strike a blow against the corrupting influence of secret money in politics. He has the power to do so at any time, without congressional approval.
Right now corporations receiving government contracts are able to "indirectly" funnel unlimited, undisclosed amounts of money to those very same politicians and candidates who grant them their contracts, perpetuating a cycle of legalized corruption that uses our tax dollars to bribe politicians and enrich corporate America.
Stand in solidarity with 99Rise activists from across the country who took nonviolent direct action to demand that Obama step up and do what's right, and join the over half million Americans who are demanding government transparency and corporate accountability: sign the petition to call on President Obama to expose secret money now.GOAL: 703 signatures
To President Obama:
Corporate government contractors are spending enormous sums of money influencing our elections and corrupting our democracy in total secrecy.
I urge you to sign an executive order mandating the full disclosure of all political spending by federal contractors so that We the People can see who is trying to buy our votes with our own tax dollars.
This is Civil Resistance at work...
In three separate acts of strategic civil disobedience, 13 brave citizen activists have stood up to disrupt the United States Supreme Court and protest their role in the wholesale corruption of our democracy.
They have spoken out against the Court's outrageous Citizens United and McCutcheon decisions and put their bodies and liberties on the line to defend democracy and to call on all Americans to take action.
Will you stand with them? Sign the petition.

I stand with the Supreme Court Disruptors. We the People must overturn Citizens United, reverse McCutcheon, and reclaim democracy for all in America.
Kai Newkirk commented on Activists disrupt proceedings at SCOTUS: Demand Free and Fair Elections, End to Corruption 2014-05-08 00:26:48 -0700Yes – they did press charges. I pled guilty to 3 federal misdemeanors and was given a sentence of time served (I was in jail overnight when arrested, 2 days technically) in April. I am also barred from the Supreme Court grounds for a year and must pay the standard fee of $50 per convicted charge to the Victims of Violent Crime Fund. SCOTUS counsel pressed the prosecutors to push for a greater sentence but the judge was sympathetic. Well worth it – now we are building on the momentum created by this action with our California March for Democracy.

More than 8 in 10 Americans now agree that we must put a stop to unlimited outside political spending, and soon our elected officials will be forced to respond to this clear mandate for change. But after the most expensive election in history, our bought Congress will only be held accountable through nonviolent action on a truly massive scale.
So that's exactly what we'll do. By signing this pledge, you join a growing Nonviolent Army of deep patriots willing to put their bodies on the line to engage in the Largest Civil Disobedience Action in American History. For us to make history, we first need the pledge of 10,000 people like you. Add your name below and together we will win a democracy that finally responds to the needs of the 99%.
I pledge to be one of 10,000 people who will risk arrest in the Largest Civil Disobedience Action in American History in order to get big money out of politics.Endorse
Dark money has no place in a democracy.
First, GOP lawmakers (and their corporate sponsors) signed our democracy’s death warrant by blocking passage of the DISCLOSE Act. Then last month, as if to add insult to injury, the DC Court of Appeals reveresed a lower court decision that would have required outside political spending groups to disclose some of their anonymous donors.* American’s last defence against a flood of unlimited Dark Money - public transparency - has been erased.
Big Money is buying the 2012 elections in secret. To escape accountability for their political spending, Wall Street corporations and super-rich donors like the Koch Brothers are pumping upwards of $900 million dollars into shadowy tax-exempt nonprofit groups that can spend unlimited money influencing elections without having to reveal a single donor.*
Let’s face it - our bought Congress no longer represents the will of the people. 88% of American voters think that “all campaign contributions and expenditures should be publicly disclosed.”* And they are right. In the words of Bill Moyers, “three things don’t go together: money, secrecy, democracy."*
Dark Money has got to go. If Congress will not act to save American democracy - we will. It’s time to take the demand for disclosure directly to the worst of the 1%, and insist they immediately release all records of any anonymous political expenditures. The Koch Brothers of the world think we don’t know or care what they’re up to: add your name to the petition and show them they’re wrong.
We delivered this petition to Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase on September 28th. Both have failed to respond, and 8 were arrested in Los Angeles when they peacefully refused to leave until BofA complied. But we will keep coming back, and our civil disobedience actions will only continue to grow until our simple demand is made impossible to ignore.
We need at least 1,000 people to sign on to this call before our next wave of actions mid-October so the deep patriots who will risk arrest to ensure our voice is heard will know a growing movement has got their back!GOAL: 1,022 signatures
Petition: As concerned Americans committed to the integrity of our democracy, we call on Wall Street and all corporations, trade associations and 501(c)4 nonprofits to immediately and fully disclose to the public the amount, source, and destination of any and all anonymous or unreported political expenditures.
Stand with Kai as he marches
I am marching because unless we end corruption and win real democracy the possibility of a just, livable future for everyone I love may be lost. My life has taught me that standing up to do the right thing to be there for those we love - no matter how hard it is - is the most important thing at the end of the day. Right now, that means marching to move everyone who believes in political equality to stand up and do something to defend our democracy.
